5:22 pm - Moving, come show your support!
Hello Ye Livejournal people. I'm using this as one of my many methods to garner some moving help for myself and my roommates. We'll be moving on May 13th and 14th, and would like to stage people for both days if possible. We will provide food and beverages for your hard work, as well as some brews when the workin' is through. Give me a ring on my cell, e-mail me, or leave me a message if you are interested. I'd like to know what day and approx when you might show up so we can keep fresh help on hand. I don't want anyone to blow a hammie. Persons with large vehicles are especially welcome!
Much love,
-e

12:15 am - Uncool musings
I read something today on a personal web site, and it struck too close to home.

"Being a nerd means I now also like to cook (cooking is the new Dungeons and Dragons) and play with computers all day long."

WTF I though I was so very cool and progressive.

I do enjoy rolling pie dough or 20s though...

2:52 pm - Concerting
I don't know if you all are aware of DC dwelling duo known as Thievery Corporation, but they are the "bee's knees" of downtemp trip-hop. Calling them a duo is really disingenuous as their touring group is huge and amazing! Last show of their world tour was back home in DC and oh my god it was indescribable. I hit them up at the 9:30 club with my good friends Ben Wu, Jason Purdy, and Chris McClenahan a few weeks ago.
They played for 2 and a half hours and I bounced and rocked the entire time... I'm not kidding
I highly recommend anything they press to polyurethane, but if you want a starter go with their new CD The Cosmic Game. For just a taste, find the tracks Warning Shots, The Heart's a Lonely Hunter, or Lebanese Blonde.

Do it NOW

On another crazy concert note, I saw Puffy Ami Yumi.

Again at the 9:30 club, but this time with Matt=[info]ishantil, Lena=[info]lenainverse, and Ben. They were oh so cute, and very much rocked. The band was amazing and they threw down many many songs I loved. Plus they chatted to the croud in a fun English/Japanese combo inbetween songs. I was thrilled that I could understand the Japanese, and they were very funny. To top it all off they covered Green Day's Basket Case as an encore, doing a hell of a job of it! Cuter than your average concert.

WOOOOOO, SPRING BREAK!!!!!!

Happy 4th of July everyone. Over a year since my last post. I'm alive and recently retrieved my password from old e-mails. I can't promise I'll update any more often though. Living in Herndon with Mike and Chris. Trying to get a piece of the Piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.

4:50 pm - Jobz
Hey folks,
It’s the first entry in quite a while. I wish it was a better one. On Friday the 6th my boss informed me of my immanent layoff. To this end I would work one more week in order to give all the information I have accumulated over the last two years to my replacement. A part-time contract based IT guy. As bad as all this sounds it's not actually going to end my existence just yet. On of the great things about being laid off is the severance pay, at least I have some time before my cash-flow stops. I don't intend to do any laurel resting however; I plan on getting a job as soon as possible.

Though it will be tempting to slack off for a few weeks...

We'll see what I can do about my motivation once I get through this week. Talk about short-timer disease. I've got it. Ah well I’ll get by on my strength and the copious good will of my friends.

I'm at work again, but this time I'm grabbing the damn machine, dropping it in my van and carting it HOME to work on. Where I can do so nekkid.
Thank god for long weekends.
--Please note I love my new mood icons, I'd love them better if they were pink because they'd totally look like Kirby.
Please also note that I have whored Dreamland but this little baby is not only one of the best games for GBC (and the only game not compatible with the SP), but also very very big.

9:14 pm
many hours later, Linux finally stopped hating me. I'll finish the setup tomorrow. At least the bastard is ON the network.

Update: and by On the network, I mean LOOKS like it's on the network but get's NO packets. I'll buy another network card tomorrow.
Redhat 9 hates me bad, and so does Livejournal, it took me about 20 tries to edit this entry.
Now I'm onto -=Snoop Dogg - Ghetto Symphony=-

6:46 pm - After school activities
Why does Linux hate all of my network cards?

I'm hanging out trying to get my FTP server moved over to a box that I own. This would be much better than having it sit on two work boxen. This is of course proving difficult.

I also don't seem to have much else to do but sit around and write on my live journal. I suppose at some point I could do some actual work work. Bah, work is over. I'm just going to sit here clicking over to dragon go server ever 30 seconds to see if anyone has made a move on any of my games. Yea yea, I've gotten into Go a bit. I even stop by a local club now and then. The real boon is that I play with my co-worker Nias (often in two hour marathon lunches on our conference table). We're both pretty beginner so we have some fun games.

Linux note, now the crappy CD-ROM in this machine hates me too.

Other points of non-interest in my life:
I have nothing to do this memorial day weekend.
The back tire of my bike is bent.
I like pie.
Best randomly surfed title page today: Last in line for the nobel peace prize, first in line for pie.

For all operations managers out there... Renegotiate your internet service pricing. At the end of our XO contract they told me I could get 100 dollars knocked off the bill for our half T1 if we resigned for a year. After doing a price war between them and Verizon we decided to stick with XO. A full T1 for 400 dollars less than we were paying previously. Let that be a lesson to ye. (On a more personal note, everyone should call their cell phone company at least once a quarter and ask for the newest pricing plan.)

I'm now going to slide down the halls in my socks; Tom Cruse style.

I saw the matrix on the 14th. It had lots of fighting.

Let's say I am 'The One'. I can bend the matrix to my will. I can fly. Now let's say I'm fighting an inexhaustible supply of agents than never go down for more than say, a second. You'd think I'd not want to waste my time beating them down over and over and over again. You'd think that wouldn't you. Sadly this fight scene went on for a long time. The net result, he flew away. Yea, about 30 seconds into the fight the outcome was obviously apparent. It's like the writer's phoned it in that day.
"I know, let's throw in another fight sequence!"
"Ok great, and what else."
.
.
. . . . . . . . . .
"Fuck it, we'll just have him fight for a good god damn long time. Then fight some more, but this time with a pole!"
"Seems fair, we had him fight a good guy to get in this scene, might as well have him fight bad guys to get out. We wrap all that around some mediocre plot and the kiddies will spooge in their shorts."

11:35 am - The 9:30 Club
Ok as promised here's the low down on the show at 9:30. Three bands: Longwave (I think), Ok Go, and headlined by The Donnas. This whole event was sort of driven by Shannon as her and her roommates (Sarah and Christy) hold a deep love of Ok Go close to their heart. To that end they made the two hour jaunt up to the seedy underbelly of DC to hit said 9:30 club. For my part I managed to get my friend Alleigh and Jason (Hightower) to come along. On a sad note the only person who I had a definite from was Anna who wasn't able to make it for totally valid reasons.

Fortune favors... ME:
The doors open at like 7:30 or some such. At 7:45 I'm getting around to putting on my pants. This isn't a big deal as those who are keeping score at home realize I live about 15 minutes from the 9:30 club. I manage to make it up and queue up for the amazingly full looking parking lot directly behind the club. My hopes are dashed as they yell out (with a mere one car in front of me) that there is no more parking to be had there. As I am lamenting my fate and actually starting to worry about the time, someone notices they have one more space. The grotesquely large SUV in front of me eats four gallons of gas lumbering into its bonus space. Not even the sweet tunes of Jurassic 5 could lift my spirits. The parking honcho (I'd call him an attendant, but no guy with dreads and a general cool demeanor about him deserves to be called a parking attendant) took a quick look at the pimping two-tone geo, took a quick look behind him, and waved me in.
"We can fit you, but that IT."
I pulled into a little tiny space immediately to the left of the entrance. It had pylons to the right and not many cars could make it comfortably. Econobox wins again. The SUV behind me had to go fend for itself. Somehow everything was right with the world.

After picking up my tickets I ambled into the club. Got a drink, watched the opening band set up and play a few songs, and waited for the crew. I'm not sure who got there first, but I got a call from Shannon and company who were on their way. I told them they'd have to fend for themselves for parking. Shortly after I was greeted with a big hug and a group of JMUites. They had brought 3 or 4 friends and I don't remember all their names so you'll have to excuse me. The opening band was still playing so no worries. Shortly after Jason spotted me from above and we all got together for a rowdy good time. We chatted some between the opener and Ok Go. Once they hit the stage though all bets were off. I hung in the same place with most of the people but a few escaped. Shannon ran up near the front to gush over the boys, which was all good as she came back wearing considerably less clothing. All told I enjoyed Ok Go quite a bit, but as always I need to hear the album to really get a feel. For one thing Alleigh was kind of drunk and chatting to me a fair bit. This I didn't mind at all as she's crazy entertaining. Truth be told I was slightly intoxicated myself and probably did more than my fair share to get the JMU crew to loosen up. In the end Shannon was back for most of the Donnas set. Now let me tell you, the Donnas are hot, like girl next door hot but still. H O T hot. This is enhanced by the fact that most of what I could pick out from the 'wall of sound' that was The Donnas + 9:30's sound system ended up being snippets like "Make me hot", "Take me to the back seat", and other teenage fantasy inducing phrases. I liked the Donnas. I'm not sure how much I'd like them if they weren't bouncing on stage in front of me... but I dug it. After the show Alleigh and Jason took off, but I hung out as the girls got their autographs and chat it up with Ok Go. They were actually very cool and came outside for autographs and schmoozing. Braving the cold weather I collected a free promo cd from the Ataris, and a rather useless chat about XM radio. Note: Shannon told me to 'remind her about it later' as she has yet to get me a Christmas Present. I didn't have the heart to tell her it was a tad expensive. Finally I asked why were still standing around and was told we were waiting for the Donnas. At this I pointed out that the Donnas probably went directly out the side door and onto the bus. Though the thought of hanging out and seeing them in their sweaty t-shirts in such frigid weather piqued my interest, it was not enough for ME to continue to freeze for the off chance. At that I drove myself on home and crashed at about 2. A good night was had by all!

And with that, it's off to cram my work in before staff meeting.

11:43 am - First Entry
I don't know exactly what happened, but here I am with a livejournal. I've had those little geeky web pages with some personal info and recent events in my life. Those are out of date as soon as they are written of course, and you don't generally keep a day by day, blow by blow account of your activities. I've kind of resisted this whole livejournal thing mostly because I'm not sure how comfortable I am with letting people read about my dealings.

I know what you're saying and you can shut it. So I'm the one, the keeper of the content. Damnit my life isn't exciting enough based on random little tidbits that won't offend. Please don't expect frequent updates everyone. I'll try to make them salient when they go up. If I end up with a string of five quiz results I will be vastly disappointed.

And now for something completely different:
Yesterday culminated in me getting home and going directly to bed. Let me tell you a little something about my power naps. They are rarely less than 3 hours and I always seem to wake up disjointed and groggy in the middle of the night. On the plus side I was able to force myself back to bed and actually accumulate a good nights sleep.
One of the benefits sleeping my evening away is having the option of getting up early. I am NOT a big supporter of the early morning. I rail against it. If there was a dictatorial political party based on early morning activity, rest assured I'd be one of the first with my back to the wall. Most likely they'd have to tie me to said wall as I'd be catching a few Z's.
That said I did get up this morning and hit the gym, and then got into work early. I had to finish up some 'emergency work' (this basically involved creating and documenting a bunch of screen shots for my boss's luncheon).
Umm, well, sheesh... That's an action packed first post. But really you are up to present. I suppose I should be really ghetto and fill out one of those Q&A forms so people will have some idea about me. Meh, forget that.
I'm out.
